Making Connections Blog Tour: Sorcery and Scholarships by Ian Isaro

Sorcery and Scholarships

I volunteered to take part in the blog tour through Make Connections group over on Goodreads.  I was intrigued by the title and blurb even though I have never read anything by this author.  I'm so happy that I decided to try him out.  This book is intense and well worth the read.  The three main characters are not the typcial 2 guys and 1 girl type story line similar to Harry Potter. I liked that.  Of the three students (Blake, Aki, and Keisha) attempting to fulfill their dreams, I really rooted for Aki the most. She's a fighter. The magic and Aki's problems and her determination are great. Definitely worth reading. Also the epilogue gives the reader an idea that there will be a second book which would be wonderful.

Blurb:
Everyone wishes the ancient prophecy would go away. Pixies commute to work and sirens make mp3s of their songs, yet antique forces stubbornly persist. They want to bring about a war between Light and Darkness in an era when most people just want to cash in on the merchandising.

Aki is struggling to make ends meet and hopes her scholarship can at least earn her a better apartment. Blake refuses to believe he could be something so cliché as a Knight of Darkness. Keisha is pursuing a career in law when she's told she has no choice but to serve the forces of Light. All of them will be attending the same university, whether they like it or not.

It's hard to think about dark omens when there's a term paper due, much less a party that night. But they'd better relax while they can, because after college is only the real world, which is stranger and more dangerous than they could possibly imagine.

The world faces an uneasy peace as it realizes a war between Light and Darkness is inevitable. Everyone sketches a different line between sides, some wanting to stop the war and some trying to take advantage of it. But the worst threat is building in the realms beyond Earth, where several groups scheme to reshape all of reality before the war can even begin.

During the calm before the storm, Aki, Blake, and Keisha have been doing their best to prepare. As they draw the attention of ever more powerful forces, they realize their preparation isn't enough. The question becomes if this is a war they should be fighting at all...

Dark clouds soar in the skies above Sabre Nichols the first time she meets Micah McGregor. Still the gloom doesn’t detract from the overwhelming hunger she feels for the sexy half native American with his lean body, long dark hair and captivating blue eyes. She wants him.

After attending her great grandmother’s funeral, Sabre assumes she’ll stay a week at the old homestead on Witch Mountain, and then return to her job as a paranormal researcher. But strange events on the mountain and Micah’s sexy charisma wreak havoc with her plans. Micah seems to hide something eerie behind his brilliant blue gaze...

Can she trust him to help find the source of the spectral activities? Or can she believe the tales of her witch heritage? If she puts her faith in Micah, will she find answers... and lose her heart?
