Let's see...I try to aim for at least 500 words per day, but sometimes it doesn't work out. Some days I reach 500 and higher (love those 5k days), other times I'm lucky to type 1 word.
It's amazing how something so simple as word count can turn a writer off. I become very depressed if I don't reach my goal and I end up shying away from the computer 'cause I worry I'll miss another word count goal. I struggle all the time not to allow the word count to affect when and how much I write.
So, does anyone else allow small things like this to affect their work?

Just dropping by to say thanks so much for your lovely comment on my TRS post yesterday, Judith. Seems most of us agree that research is a great thing!
I agree about the word count thing - sometimes one seems to be thinking more about that than the actual plot. It's depressing when you write a great couple of pages and then discover you're about 300 words short of your goal. ah well. Quality not quantity! Love your cover for 'Dragon Wish' by the way!
Thanks Lynn! Miss you, honey!
My goal is to write something, anything, every day. Whether it be just my blog, the book I'm working on, the flash fiction I do for fun or a combination I'm happy as long as I write something.
I agree with Barbara. My goal is to post something every day. My big problem is that I have several blogs and I don't want to post on every one every day. I'd never get anything else done.
Mostly I post at

Hey Judy,
Because my life is a mess, I tend to write in terms of time rather than dealing with word counts. When I get the writing bug, I usually write broken down into 10 minute increments. (A necessity because I had to find a way to fit writing into my 1 hr lunch and 2 15 minute breaks at work). So I time myself in terms of 3 10 minute sessions a day. It works well when I'm writing. lol
Word count goal? What's that LOL!
Making time to write is a challenge for me now with all the other aspects of my career, but I do my best to work on my career every day - whether it is writing, blogging, articles or essays, promoting, SOMETHING.
Great post!
